Yordan Georgiev was born on 1 September 1863 in Tarnovo. He received his secondary education in Osijek, Croatia, and graduated in medicine in Vienna. He specialized in surgery under Professors Billroth and Albert in Vienna and at Bergmann's clinic in Berlin. After returning to Bulgaria, he worked as a senior surgeon in Lovech, where he later also became director of the hospital (1895–1900). From 1900 he headed the surgical department of the Rousse Hospital for 19 years. In Rousse he developed active surgical, scientific and teaching activity, and published a number of scientific works as well as the monograph "Notes of a Surgeon" (1915). During the Balkan War he was chief of a staging hospital in Lozengrad, and during the First World War he served as a medical captain and chief of the Rousse Military Hospital. He was awarded the Order "For Military Merit", Fourth Class. He died in 1932.
